Cracking the whip

The recent turn of events in reshuffle of the cabinet clearly indicate the way democracy and in fighting between the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has turn out to be who is mightier and has the real power.

The shift of the cabinet is part of governments effort to punish rebelled members of cabinet as it was in the last 2005 referendum where all cabinet who led the no campaign were sacked.

The move by Prime Minister is seen by many as part pining down his deputy party leader since as the two of them have been breaking ranks on various diverse national issues.

The move to shift Hon William Ruto to Ministry of Higher Education however has not shocked many as Kenyans expected the PM to take the move and sack the Minister having being in the lead in criticizing him in public over the last one year.

Well the PM might have scored the political mileage but Kenyans are left wondering what to expect more in this political circus game.

Just as we are about to go for a referendum the rift is greatly widening as the yes team campaign has agitated for passing of draft while the no team are against the passing of the draft with out amendments.

If democracy is all about having and the respect for ones opinion and stand on issues pertaining the interests of the country why should the PM be against the Minister?

We all have diverse interests which need to be addressed and as much as everyone wants to be heard there is need for consensus between both sides of the camps.

The genesis of the difference between the PM and his Deputy Hon Ruto is clearly vested on different ideologies the two have been sharing over the past.

First it started as unfair representation of the Rift valley in the cabinet, then came the diverse scripts on the detain and trial of post election perpetrator of which the PM rooted for International Prosecutions(ICC) while Ruto called for formation of truth justice and reconciliation commission.

When the TJRC was commissioned by the President the Minister could have scored but what lied ahead resulted to a tug of war.

The forceful evictions of Mau settlers elicited another heated debate and after ahead of fund raise by Ruto and several MPs the PM was ridiculed by the MPs who attended the function.

Much as the events went by the Prime Minister suspended the Agriculture Minister and his counterpart Education Minister Prof Sam Ongeri based on allegations of involvement in the maize and free education scam.
If any thing is to go by the president later revoked the suspension and once again Ruto scoped the score.

However, the reshuffle might greatly undermined his position as a Minister as he is left with a few parastatals to run in the Ministry of Higher Education compared to the agriculture docket that holds 37 parastatals.

This time round the vocal Eldoret North MP has nothing to smile about and together with the church clerics are still holding on there no stand on the passing of the draft without amendments.

Well the Orange Democratic boss is practicing the use of cold war as it has turn out to be apolitical battle and the play ground is Rift Valley province that holds more than 4million number of registered voters.

As days go by only political analysts can predict the fate of ODM as the party has been immensely affected by the internal wrangles between the PM and Ruto.

I believe that no one sees the storm coming as the Minister should have long ago sensed his political fate. The shift which is government policy might change the political destiny of the Eldoret North MP and only the outcome of the referendum will determine it.

In the name of constitution making the PM and his Deputy have wash there dirty linens in public a rare move the two leaders have done. Kenyans are optimistic that the much awaited constitution will this time be delivered.

Just to give Kenyans anew constitution will be much better than anything else as many of them have fought for it for the last 20 years.

If the ODM party is to retain its total control of votes in the Rift Valley then its time they strategies well because the current political turmoil in the region spells doom to the party.

Only the intervention of apolitical messiah can save the two political leaders from dividing the country along tribal ethnic lines for we agitate for a free democratic society where opinion and stand of individual is respected.
